Sep. 30th, 2010 07:53 amJersey Shore's Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi has a book deal with Simon & Schuster. She is slated to write a novel for their Gallery Books publications.
The working title is "A Shore Thing". The story revolves around a girl looking for love on the boardwalk.
This magnum opus is coming from the woman who declared in an interview back in July that she has only read two books, 'Twilight' by Stephenie Meyers and 'Dear John' by Nicholas Sparks.
This saddens me on so many levels I do not even know where to begin. One, how did she get through high school without reading a single book? Wait, I knew kids like here in school, they were the ones always stealing my school supplies and making certain to sit next to me during tests.
I think she might be lying. I think she has read more. But that is worse because it means, she believes it necessary to lie about the number of books she has read.
I know she isn't the first "celebrity" to "write" a novel. I know she won't be the last. But for some reason, I find this news to be the biggest kick in the gut.
I understand the book industry's focus is selling as much as possible. And I am aware it is smug of me to assume anything I am writing is going to be better than what she tells her ghost writer to type out.
I feel defeated because on some level, I was already aware that anything I submit for publication is only going to sell if I am already a celebrity.
Also, now I want to know how to become a ghost writer.
