It started innocently enough. A joke made during Dragon*Con 2009 about how I should get a tattoo of Nikola Tesla since I love him so much.
It's true, I heart Nikola Tesla. The names Nikola and Tesla are on my list of potential names for offspring. If anyone so much as says Nikola, Tesla, or coil, I barge into said conversation hoping to talk shop.
I do have an unhealthy obsession with Nikola Tesla. But can you blame me? The man is awesome.
(Oh yes, he remains awesome even in death.)

Nikola Tesla, being awesome and thinking awesome thoughts
For those who aren't familiar with Nikola Tesla, here is a quick summary, Twitter style:
Nikola Tesla is the reason you don't have to stumble around in the dark at night.

Recently, I started thinking about that tattoo again.
I still want it.
But I don't tattoo lightly.
You won't see me drunkenly stumbling into a tattoo parlor on a Saturday night, point at a random illustration on the wall and wake up Sunday with a flaming butterfly on my forehead.
I decide on a design, I decide on a location, and I wait at least one year. If over the course of said year, I find the location and the design desirable ,daily, that ink will be done. But it must be constant. If the design changes, the year starts over. If the location changes, the year starts over. If the desire flags, the year starts over.
After a year of constant desire, I fly up to New York to see my tattoo artist. It's been awhile. I hope he's still alive.
There isn't a demand for Nikola Tesla and Tesla coil tattoos. So it's not like I can run into the tattoo parlor. pick out a design of Nikki and the Coil (side note, that would be a brilliant band name), wait a year, and go to town.
That's a good thing.
Of course, the downside is, finding an illustration or commissioning an illustration.
Then it hit me. Why don't I commission my favourite illustrator, Katie Cook, to draw my tattoo?

Unfortunately for me, but great for her, she isn't taking personal commissions right now. She is super busy drawing professional what not.
Awesome for her, but it puts me in a sad panda kind of mood.
This lead to another idea. Okay, why don't I start commissioning artists to draw pictures of Nikola Tesla with the Tesla coil? I'll have an awesome collection of Nikki and the Coil and I am certain one of these illustrations will lead to the tattoo I want to consider. If I never get the tattoo, oh well, but at least I'll have some sweet art dedicated to Nikola Tesla.
And so it begins.
I know of a few illustrators, artists and the like, but of course, I don't know them all.
Gentle reader, do you have a favourite illustrator, artist, graphic designer that I should know about and consider for this endeavor?
A few rules.
1.) They must be living.
2.) They must be accessible.
3.) I can't afford $5,000 for a drawing. I appreciate the work that goes into an original design, but it would be awesome if they had a price range that peons like myself can afford.
4.) They must have a portfolio I can see. I'm certain your cousin Ray Ray is a great artist, but I really want to see his body of work before I consider asking him to do a commission piece.
5.)No unsolicited Nikki and the Coil pieces. Once again, it's a financial thing. I can't afford to purchase everything.
6.) There is no deadline for this accumulation of Nikola Tesla illustrations. Mostly because I can not afford to shell out $5,000 a month on illustrations.
7.) Honestly, I don't know why I posted a list of rules. It's not like this is going to take off as a meme or anything. (Seriously, don't let this take of as a meme.)
Summary for the TL;DR folks
I'm starting a collection of Nikola Telsa art to hopefully inspire a tattoo.
