Hazel Methuselah 2007 - 2007
Nov. 21st, 2007 03:16 pmRemember Hazel, the injured butterfly that Jonathan and I were taking care of hospice style?

Her right wing came off while she was flexing her wings the other day. Just flex, flex, plop. It was rather nasty.
She wasn't looking good, although the fact that she has been with us for over a week and a half when the average healthy butterfly tends to live a week, two tops, shows that she lived a long butterfly life.
This afternoon, at one in the afternoon, I had to euthanize a butterfly.
(How does one euthanize a butterfly you might ask? Well, by placing them in the freezer, allowing their systems to shut down. I have been told this isn't a painful process.)
I spent from one until three crying. I feel rather pathetic. It was for the best, she was very badly hurt and in pain and I was just being selfish by wanting to have more time with her.

Hazel Methuselah, I will miss how you got cranky if you didn't have a good spot on the table to watch Degrassi: Next Generation.
I will miss your preference for Jonathan to feed you honey water.
It was a surreal week and a half. You shall be missed.
G-d speed, little dude.
