This disappointed cookie lived a rather long life thanks to the positioning of certain chocolate chips during the baking process. Any other cookie would have been gone in seconds, and Disapproving Richard Thomas cookie was on a similar path until I decided to look at what I was about to eat.

I knew at some point it would meet it's end. And I wanted to get photographic evidence of Disapproving Richard Thomas cookie before that time.

(That time was about a day later, when Jonathan had a sweet tooth moment and ate Disapproving Richard Thomas cookie.)

Disapproving Richard Thomas cookie is named such, due to the chocolate chip mole positioned over it's disapproving chocolate chip frown in a manner similar to how Richard Thomas, aka John Boy from The Walton's looked when he didn't have time for the shenanigan's of his 12,000 other siblings.

John Boy doesn't have time for your whining, Mary Ellen, John Boy has serious writin' and thinkin' to do now.

Something about the flash reflecting on the plate has turned Disapproving Richard Thomas cookie from a mere baked good with humourously positioned chocolate, to an eerie cookie prophet, casting judgment on all who gaze upon it's glory.

So gaze upon Disapproving Richard Thomas cookie and prepare to be judged and feel great shame in how disappointing you are.

Or just accept your judgment and be amused by a cookie that bears a resemblance to a seventies teenage heartthrob.

Whatever works for you.

Sexy teen heart throb John Boy, thanks you for your time.

(Not my avocado smoothie, but a fair representation of it.)

Recently I learned about making avocado smoothies. It sounded bizarre, I am used to avocado being a savory food and not one paired with sweet things like smoothies. Considering I practically live off of chia seeds and coconut water, I didn't think I should be one to judge.

Having just made my first avocado smoothie, I take back any doubts I had before. I am a believer.

Just a little back story to explain my reaction. I am lactose intolerant. I can not digest dairy.

What happens when I eat dairy, well, it's not pretty, and it's pretty frakkin' painful. A lot of mucus and gas is involved and the sensation of razor blades passing through one's small intestine. And not just if I dare to eat real cream or whole milk. That is what happens when I try 2%. Yeah, it sucks.

The recipes for avocado smoothies tend to involve condensed sweeten milk or yogurt or regular milk. I had to alter the recipe a bit.

1/2 ripe avocado
2 cups almond milk
1 frozen banana

Throw the ingredients into a blender. Blend until smoothie and drink.

I am kind of in love with the avocado smoothie. It is thick, creamy, buttery. It's like a whole milk milkshake, only green, vegan, and I can greedily consume the entire thing without fear of lactose revenge.

I'm having trouble consuming the entire smoothie. It's very filling. I can see this feeding two people easily.

Now, I'm already a huge fan of the avocado. But I could see this being a good stepping recipe for those hesitant to try the crocodile skinned fruit. I didn't add any additional sweeteners, but I bet this would be fantastic with a little yacon, agave nectar, honey, or vanilla bean sugar chucked in.

Oh man, I just found this awesome avocado smoothie recipe that involves a layer of chocolate.

My order from J-list arrived today!

Mmmm..I love parcels from Japan.

What did I order?

From left to right:

One Sumaki Natural Bamboo Sushi Roller
http://www.jlist.com/PRODUCT/CHP019

I could have picked one up at our friendly neighbourhood Asian grocery store, but I was already making an order and it's about the same price.

One bag of Bourbon Cubyrop Fruit Candy Collection
http://www.jlist.com/PRODUCT/MPJ635

Not going to lie, I lost my shit when I saw this listed on J-list recently. I became addicted to this candy while living in New York City, courtesy of my friendly neighbourhood Japanese grocery store. It's cube shaped, fruit flavoured hard candy. Flavours include: green apple; grapefruit; lemon; boysenberry; peach; grape; strawberry; and orange. Now that I think about it, I probably should have ordered more than one bag.

One Moe (Akihabara Limited) ~ Japanese Food Drops container
http://www.jlist.com/PRODUCT/KAN030

I heart drop candy. You might be most familiar with them from the anime 'Grave of the Fireflies'. delicious hard candies kept in a delightful metal container. This particular flavour is strawberry milk. Now that I think about it, I probably should have ordered more than one container.

One set of 3 Size Rabbit & Bird Kawaii Cooking Shaper Set
http://www.jlist.com/PRODUCT/CHP029

I love cookie cutters. I love rabbits. I love cheap ass sets of cookie cutters. Fin.

One package of Nagatanien Salmon Chazuke / Soup Rice ( 3 Packs)
http://www.jlist.com/PRODUCT/SWN100

This is for Jonathan. Who longs for spice packets to jazz up his leftover rice. Not really, but I'm certain he will enjoy these anyway. Chazuke is a Japanese dish of green tea, dashi and hot water over cooked rice. This is an instant mix to bring the flavour of Japan to you. Take leftover rice, pour one of the packets over said rice, and hot water and mix.

Four packages of Green Tea Sakura Kit Kat bars.

No link, because they are out of stock/not shipping chocolate and meltable snacks anymore. I am glad I order four packages when I had a chance. It's a kit kat bar, only green tea and sakura flavoured. I will admit, it sounds a little weird, but considering I love green tea flavoured everything, it's a treat for me.

I'm not a big pie person, so I made Mashed Potato Cupcakes and brought them to dinner on Thursday.

The idea is not an original, but stolen from the fine volume of cupcake ideas, Hello, Cupcake by Karen Tack and Alan Richardson.

If you enjoy making cupcakes I highly recommend this book. It's a great resource of how to hints for making adorable and quirky cupcakes.

It's a basic butter cake recipe with buttercream frosting for the mashed potato. The gravy is warmed caramel sauce and the pat of butter is a Pina Colada Starburst candy.

I expected this to be a case of "It's pretty but tastes awful". Not at all. The warm caramel sauce seeps into the butter cake cupcake and you end up with a Tres Leches cake taste. So yummy!

The "Wham, Bam, Thank you, M'am." Winter Tour 2007 of the Hellmouth went without a hitch. Now I am back in dear old tallytown, where I am freezing my toesies off.

(I went from 80 degree weather in the Hellmouth to the current temperature of 35 degrees.)

Today, I will go to the grocery store and get ingredients for Christmas Eve dinner. (Salmon steaks, steamed asparagus, something the Frugal Gourmet calls "Christmas Eve Pasta" a dish consisting of penne pasta, cream sauce, fresh peas, red bell peppers and onions. It certainly looks festive.)

An exciting addition to the meal and my life, "Grandma cookies".

This has to be the best winter ever because I received the sacred "Grandma cookies" recipe. (For my own personal gluttony and not commercial use, of course.)

I have been gorging myself on these morsels of love and awesome since the first Christmas I knew belismakr and first stumbled upon the "Grandma cookie".

And what is a "Grandma cookie"? At it's root definition it is a sour cream cookie with icing, but that simple definition does it no justice.

When you first bite into a "Grandma cookie" you notice the delicate crunch softening by the delicate schmear of icing. After that you feel the flaky soft inner cookie play with the mons of your tongue. At this point, if you are quiet enough, you can hear your taste buds sing the second verse of Handel's "Messiah".

Yes, they are that good.

Today I will make my first attempt at recreating the "Grandma cookie". Personally, I think the reason they taste so incredible is due to the amount of Grandma love she puts into each cookie. Here is hoping I can replicate that love.

A co-worker pointed out to me today that I combine my hobbies.

I love video games.

I love to knit.

My next project is to knit a scarf of level one of Super Mario Bros.

http://ian-albert.com/misc/gamemaps/super_mario_bros/full/mario-1-1.gif

Following that logic, is this next idea any surprise?

I love Harry Potter novels.

I love cupcakes.

I am going to make Hogwart's House cupcakes!

Flavours

Slytherin:
Creme de Menthe chocolate cupcakes with dark chocolate ganache
or
Lime Coconut cupcakes with coconut cream whipped frosting

Ravenclaw:
Snickerdoodle cupcakes with blue mocha buttercream frosting
or
Blueberry pineapple cupcakes with a pineapple glaze

Hufflepuff:
Caramel cupcakes with toffee chips and chocolate ganache
or
banana cupcakes with dark chocolate chips and Butterscotch buttercream frosting

Gryffindor:
Strawberry cupcakes with lemon merengue frosting
or
Red Velvet cupcakes with cream cheese pecan frosting

(EDIT: Not up for voting, I am making one of each, kind of a light option and a heavy option for each house. I will make these after the move. Tallytown peeps will be meh lab monkeys.)

Oh, and I may or may not have been spoiled for Book 7. I was reading a celebrity gossip blog and accidentally read what may or may not be a spoiler. After confiding what I read to Jonathan, he thinks it is bogus.

I hope so.
